Smiley Movement launches a charity highlight film covering the work of The Vavengers

Film by Smiley Movement

Smiley Movement captures the work of The Vavengers by creating a special edition charity highlight film.

The crew followed the team around the City of London and filmed a gathering with some of the charity’s Community Ambassadors.

The film also captured Halimot’s first visit back to King’s Cross Station, where Halimot ran for freedom after surviving years of trafficking & modern slavery. The last time Halimot was at this station years ago, she was trafficked from Europe to the UK to continue being exploited, Halimot took brave action and managed to run for safety. Halimot returned to this spot with The Vavengers to overcome her trauma of what this spot represented.

Publishing the film on their digital platforms, Smiley Movement said:

“The Vavengers really are like superheroes. Initially, they just wanted to spread the word about FGM/C and gender-based violence. But soon it grew, and grew. Many of the other Vavengers have experienced gender-based violence, including FGM/C, and they are using their stories to education, and motivate and inform. Most of all, they want to prevent other women, girls and AFAB (assigned female at birth) people from experiencing the trauma they did.”

Halimot was also featured in Smiley Movement’s Everyday Heroes series.
